Had a sudden loss of hot water last winter, and my Vaillant boiler started flashing a fault code. Called out a local Gas Safe engineer who specialises in these boilers; he quickly diagnosed a faulty diverter valve. The repair cost was reasonable, and he explained everything he was doing while he worked. The boiler has been running perfectly ever since, with no further issues.
