When I'm working from home, I sometimes need to access academic journals that my local library subscribes to. I use the library proxy access, which lets me log in with my library card credentials and then redirects my traffic through their servers. That way, when I click on a paywalled article, the system recognizes me as a library patron and grants me free access. It's a straightforward way to get around expensive database subscriptions without resorting to shady sites.
